The 1930's

The 1930's group did an excellent job at teaching the class. They were well prepared and knew what they needed to talk about. One of the most important things I learned in their class was the actual cause of the great depression. I didn’t realize that it was the stock market that caused such poverty and hunger. I also learned about how hard it was to find jobs, and how the organization of government agencies such as the CCC helped create jobs for men. Sometime theses jobs were nothing more than to move rocks from one side of the street to the other. They also worked on a lot of the roads and trails that traverse our national parks. The example the class used to show how strikes were almost impossible was a great demonstration. You got a firs hand experience about feeling your inner greed.
Another interesting topic we learned about was how people would cope with the depressing and the items that were used to help. The biggest one was the introduction of colored movies. In class the example of The Wizard of Oz as used to show the new technology of the time. But for the people who couldn’t afford to go to the movies there was always the radio. Almost every family had one and the service was free. These items were just some of the many that helped America get through the great depression.
